About Alanna

Alanna is a writer and editor with more than a decade of experience working in the digital lifestyle and health + wellness spaces.

In 2011, she moved to New York after graduating with a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri (Mizzou) and joined the Shape.com team as an intern. Two months later, she was quickly promoted to associate editor, where she oversaw the brand's syndication relationships, pitched, wrote, and edited blog posts, slideshows, and features, arranged video shoots, and handled special projects (including the site's Olympics coverage and blogger awards). In 2014, she became the site's first news editor and pioneered the brand's expansion of news content, body image- and body positive-related content, and opinion pieces.

From there, she jumped to Cosmopolitan.com in September of 2014, where she ran the Cosmo for Latinas vertical (cosmopolitan.com/cosmo-latina) until December of 2015. There, Alanna oversaw the social media and editorial strategy for Cosmo's sister magazine and grew traffic to the vertical from 150,000 unique visits (UVs) per month to 2 million monthly UVs.

Most recently, Alanna was the senior wellness editor at Healthline, where she managed a team of six and oversaw the assigning, production, editing, and publishing of more than 200 pieces of thoughtful, SEO-driven stories per month.

Currently, she’s the senior director of content at Pillar4 Media, where she leads the content strategy and product testing process among three of the biggest sleep health and product sites on the Internet. She's also trying (and failing, most of the time) to write her first book.
